Values in Flux and the Concept of a Value Community

We have introduced the concept of a 'value community' for a group of people whose values are sufficiently close that they can discuss these values (and the application of the values) in a meaningful way. A value community is therefore an important factor for the disseminaation of values, and for the adaptation of values to new conditions in the world.

It is argued that each nation-state shall be seen as a value community with respect to society-foundational values, and that each cultural group in a society with diversity shall be seen as a value community with respect to those values that characterize the group. The relationships between the value systems in the state and in the various diversity groups is an important issue which shall also to some be extent be subject to rules and values that are set by the state.
